Sally Cohen leads Hale & Monico’s Post-Conviction Practice Group, where she is committed to securing justice for those wrongfully convicted. Her work not only focuses on exonerating the innocent but also on addressing the profound injustices of wrongful incarceration.

Ms. Cohen began her legal career at a prestigious global law firm, specializing in complex commercial litigation. During her time there, she also devoted over 250 hours annually to federal civil rights litigation through a robust pro bono practice.

Driven by her passion for public interest work, Ms. Cohen transitioned to a career dedicated to justice. She first served as a judicial law clerk for Justice Robert E. Gordon of the Illinois Appellate Court, where she honed her expertise in criminal procedure, constitutional law, and the Post-Conviction Hearing Act. Following her clerkship, Ms. Cohen furthered her dedication to public service by joining the Office of the State Appellate Defender (OSAD) as an Assistant Appellate Defender.

Ms. Cohen is a proud graduate of Chicago Public Schools and Harvard Law School.
